I wish this help you You can run an external command without a shell (and therefore without issues with shell metacharacters) using child_process.spawn (or other methods in child_process). (Obviously, you must not specify the shell option as anything other than the default false.)
That lets you not worry about metacharacters in the filepath, but it seems to me that there are plenty of other issues with letting the user provide a filepath name to be used as such on a live filesystem. Personally, I'd autogenerate safe, short names and keep the correspondence from user name to filesystem name in a database somewhere.

Does that help I am running Ruby on Rails 3.0.9 in a remote VPS machine running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and I would like to know if it is possible to run some related Linux folder and file permission commands "directly" stating those in the RAILS_ROOT/config/environments/production.rb file. If so, how to accomplish that to set my RAILS_ROOT/public directory and its sub directories with 755 permissions? , try this
code :
system "chmod 755 public"

I wish this help you i am not sure if i understood your problem. but if you want to escape some characters from an array, you can do soemthing like this.
code :
var a = new Array();
a[0] = "abc,def";
a[1] = "abc:def";
a[2] = "abc(def)";

var excpList = [',',':','(', ')'];

var res = a.map(function(item,index,array){
           return item.split('').filter(function(item,index,array){
             if(excp.indexOf(item) < 0){
               return item;
             }
           }).join('');
});

Does that help The reason for this is in the special rules applied inside the bracket expressions:
code :
# this matches 'b]' or '\]'
~$ echo b] | egrep '[b\]]'
b]
~$ echo '\]' | egrep '[b\]]' # note the quotes prior and after the pipe
\]

# the next one is equivalent to '[b\]]'
# cause a double \ inside chars class is redundant
~$ echo b] | egrep '[b\\]]'
b]
~$ echo '\]' | egrep '[b\\]]'
\]

# the last one matches '\]' or '[]' or 'b]'
~$ echo b] | egrep '[\[b\]]'
[b]
~$ echo [] | egrep '[\[b\]]'
[]
~$ echo '\]' | egrep '[\[b\]]'
\]
# without quotes in the echo section, the escape \ is applied by the shell
# so egrep receive only a closing bracket ']' and nothing is printed out
~$ echo \] | egrep '[\[b\]]'

# If we remove instead the quotes from the egrep section
# the regex becomes equivalent to [[b]] so it now matches '[]' or 'b]' and not '\]' anymore
~$ echo '\]' | egrep [\[b\]]
~$ echo '[]' | egrep [\[b\]]
[]
~$ echo 'b]' | egrep [\[b\]]
b]

I wish this helpful for you It might be a timing issue.
Consider adding Thread.sleep between the two println calls.
code :
ps.println(command1);
Thread.sleep(1000);
ps.println("ls -ltr");
((ChannelShell)channel).setPty(false);
channel.connect();

wish help you to fix your issue
stat is part of coreutils and part of the GNU project. Any major GNU/Linux distribution will offer this package. Note that minimal environments like BusyBox may instead offer their own, limited version of stat.
