it fixes the issue You're currently calling the function but not doing anything with its return value.
You can log it to the web console:
code :
console.log(getFormId('2'));
function log(msg) {
    var p = document.createElement("pre");
    p.appendChild(document.createTextNode(msg));
    document.body.appendChild(p);
}
log(getFormId('2'));

hop of those help? Is it possible to create a single .svc file (WCF Service) that I can upload to my server and test if it correctly handles WCF files? i.e. it is configured to host WCF services. , You can use inline coding in your svc file:
code :
%@ ServiceHost Language="C#" Debug="true" Service="MyService.MyService" %>
using System;
using System.Runtime.Serialization;
using System.ServiceModel;

namespace MyService
{
    [ServiceContract]
    public interface IMyService
    {
        [OperationContract]
        int MyMethod(int x, int y);
    }

    public class MyService : IMyService
    {
        public int MyMethod(int x, int y)
        {
            return ((x + y) * 2);
        }
    }
}
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<configuration>

  <system.web>
    <compilation debug="false" />
  </system.web>

  <system.serviceModel>
    <services>
      <service name="MyService.MyService">
        <endpoint address="" binding="wsHttpBinding" contract="MyService.IMyService" />
      </service>
    </services>
  </system.serviceModel>
</configuration>

To fix this issue You just return the book1 to the function getXmlLoader(), but you have to return it to getUiData1()
code :
this.getUiData1=function(){
      //you have to return the parameter
      var book1;
      xmlcontroller.getXmlLoader('book1',function(returnData){
            book1=returnData;
      });
      return book1;

};

To fix the issue you can do Is there a way where I can output the result by only 1 function, instead of two? I'm currently learning JavaScript, and I wanted to call a function using document.write instead of getElementById and this is what I've came across of: , Ok, here's the refactored code and then I'll explain what's going on:
code :
<head>
  <script>
    const addStrings = function (firstName, lastName) {
      return firstName + lastName;
    };

    const addStringsAlternate = (firstName, lastName) => firstName + lastName;
  </script>
</head>
<body>
<script>
  document.write(addStrings('Jerome', 'Smith'));
  document.write(addStringsAlternate('Jerome', 'Smith'));
</script>
