this one helps. As you have written your code under IntializeComponent() method then make sure after code which you written, Textbox values are not assigned back to string.empty value. (i.e Textbox values are not being overwrite like as below)
E.g.
code :
this.txtBoxLimitPerMinute.Text = String.Empty;

hop of those help? Instead of using SelectedIndexChanged, you should use SelectionChangeCommitted in order to respond only if the user is really the one who changed the selections.
And about the textbox event, I would go with Mr. CoDeXeR's option.

will be helpful for those in need Your app throws exception because when you perform edit in textbox there is no guarantee that textbox contains number. I would go with this change:
code :
        private void mlkbuykg_TextChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
        {
            int a,b;
            if (int.TryParse(mlkrate.Text, out a) && int.TryParse(mlkbuykg.Text, out b)){
                int c = a * b;
                mlktotal.Text = c.ToString();
            }
        }

hope this fix your issue I've been working with a code that allows me to draw lines around text boxes in vb.net but these lines are solid lines. I'd like to have dashed or even dotted lines to dress the application up a little. Is there a way to make dashed lines around text boxes like you can do on the form? The current code I'm using is as so.. , like this
code :
Private Sub Form1_Paint(sender As Object, e As PaintEventArgs) Handles Me.Paint
    For Each txtBox As Control In Me.Controls
        If TypeOf (txtBox) Is TextBox Then
            Dim borderRectangle As Rectangle = New Rectangle(txtBox.Location, txtBox.Size)
            borderRectangle.Inflate(1, 1)
            ControlPaint.DrawBorder(e.Graphics, borderRectangle, txtBox.ForeColor, ButtonBorderStyle.Dashed)
        End If
    Next
End Sub

Hope this helps
I have multiple panels with text boxes in them but all other panels are hidden when one panel is showing.
code :
foreach (Panel pnl in Controls.OfType<Panel>().Where(p => p.Visible))
{
    foreach (TextBox tb in pnl.Controls.OfType<TextBox>())
    {
        if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(tb.Text.Trim()))
        {
            MessageBox.Show("Please give an answer for all questions!");
            return;
        }
    }
}

will be helpful for those in need The TextBox control has a Text property. You would simply reference that to get the value out of the TextBox.
Note that in the following example, I'm making assumptions about the names of your controls since you didn't provide them.
code :
private void CalculateBtn_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
   string lengthString = LengthTxt.Text;
   string widthString = WidthTxt.Text;
}
private void CalculateBtn_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
   if (!double.TryParse(LengthTxt.Text, out double length))
   {
      MessageBox.Show("Please enter a number for the length.");
      return;
   }
   if (!double.TryParse(Width.Text, out double width))
   {
      MessageBox.Show("Please enter a number for the width.");
      return;
   }
}
