will help you To display items on Telerik:RadGridView usually I use DataContext="{Binding [someViewModel]}" and ItemSource="{Binding objectList, Mode=TwoWay}". , if using Ancestor you have to bind to DataContext
code :
<CheckBox IsEnabled="{Binding Path=DataContext.enabledVar,
     RelativeSource={RelativeSource Mode=FindAncestor,
<telerik:RadGridView x:Name="myGrid" ...
<CheckBox IsEnabled="{Binding Path=DataContext.enabledVar, ElementName=myGrid}"

should help you out Your ViewModel is not updated with value from TextBox because when you press Enter you still have focus in TextBox. By default, ViewModel will be updated after you leave TextBox control. However, you can change this situation by using custom behavior. This one works for me like a charm: http://zoltanarvai.com/2009/07/22/binding-update-on-textbox-textchanged-event-using-behaviors/

I wish did fix the issue. You can always access it just by storing your viewmodel in a variable you can access, the module and revealing module patterns are nice, but you can just store it in an object that won't conflict with other names ('my' here):
code :
my = { viewModel: new EmployeeViewModel() };
$(document).ready(function() {
    my.vm = new EmployeeViewModel();
    $('button').on('click', function(e) {
        alert('you clicked on employee ' + ko.contextFor(e.target).$data.name() +
             ' also known as ' + ko.dataFor(e.target).name());
function EmployeeViewModel() {
  var self = this;

  // skipped some of your code

  this.clickedOnEmployee = function(model, event) {
    // assuming your Employee has a name observable
    alert('You clicked on employee ' + model.name());
<ul data-bind="foreach: employees">
        <span data-bind="text: name"></span>
        <button data-bind="click: $root.clickedOnEmployee">show</button>

hop of those help? You might consider having a global.js that returns a singleton, which you include in view models as needed.
code :
define(function () {

    return {
        sharedObservable: ko.observable(),
        sharedObservableArray: ko.observableArray(),
define([..., global], function (..., global) {

    // As an alternative use a local var for easier access
    // var localVar = global.sharedObservable;
    // localVar('updated')

hope this fix your issue Look into Event Aggregation. Your MainWindowViewmodel should subscribe to "events" that your AbcViewModel broadcasts. This will decouple your AbcViewModel from your MainWindowViewModel.
Prism is a library that implements this pattern. The library may be overkill for your needs, but you can easily implement your own system.
code :
 internal void PidToolBoxInfoEvent(object sender, PidToolBoxEventArg args)

public class MainWindowViewModel
    public MainWindowViewModel(IEventAggregator ea)
        // You may need to subscribe on the UI thread.
        // If so, use: Subscribe(..., ThreadOption.UIThread)

    void UpdateStatusBar(PidToolBoxEventArg pidEventArgs)
        //implement logic

will be helpful for those in need Reference Progress Class
Provides an IProgress that invokes callbacks for each reported progress value.
code :
class DownloadService {
    public void DownloadData(IProgress<int> progress = null) {
        int totalDownloaded = 0;
        for (int i = 0; i < 101; i++) {
            progress?.Report(totalDownloaded); // ?. just in case
public MainWindowViewModel() {
    StartDownloadCommand = new RelayCommand(o => {
        var progress = new Progress<int>(value => ProgressValue = value);
    }, o => true);
