var fetching = peopleCollection.fetch({ success: function () { console.log("collection fetched");  } });

To fix the issue you can do I find a combination of jQuery deferreds and underscore's invoke method solves this elegantly:
code :
//call fetch on the three collections, and keep their promises
var complete = _.invoke([quotes, projects, currencies], 'fetch');

//when all of them are complete...
$.when.apply($, complete).done(function() {
   //all ready and good to go...

Does that help You should call your render function from the success handler as a collection.fetch returns result asynchronously (you can also bind render function to a collection reset event).
code :
var v = Backbone.View.extend({
    el : '#mydiv',
    template : _.template($("#details").html()),
    initialize : function() {
      var self = this,
          coll = new c();
      coll.fetch({ success: function(){ self.render() ; } });
    render : function() {
      // the persons will be "visible" in your template
      this.$el.html(this.template({ persons: this.coll.toJSON() }));
      return this;
<script type="text/template" id="details">
    <% _.each(persons, function(person)  { %>
      <li><%= person.name %></li>
    <% }); %>

may help you . I think it could be that you set the el of FilmView to an id, which should always be unique, however then you loop over the collection and continually reset that el/id with the current model since each FilmView is going to have the same el
