will be helpful for those in need Your NullPointerException stack trace is caused by the change you made to the view creation. You can't instantiate views like this:
code :
public LinearLayout mainWindow = new LinearLayout(this);
public TextView mainText = new TextView(this);
public class MainActivity extends Activity {
    public LinearLayout mainWindow;
    public TextView mainText;

    @Override
    public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);

        mainWindow = new LinearLayout(this);
        mainText = new TextView(this);

        mainWindow.addView(mainText);

        setContentView(mainWindow);
    }

}

around this issue Ok, I've made it. All I had to do is setting LinearLayout that is inside of ScrollView to
code :
layout_width="wrap_content"
layout_gravity="center_horizontal"
android:orientation="vertical"
layout_width="fill_parent"
layout_gravity="center_horizontal"
layout_height="wrap_content"
layout_width="fill_parent"
layout_height="fill_parent"
gravity="center_vertical"
orientation="vertical"

seems to work fine I'm not entirely sure what you're problem is, but I suspect it's that the rows are not showing up at all because I don't see where you attach the listener to the Button. To handle a click event, an OnClickListener needs to be set on your View. Though this is commonly done with Buttons, OnClickListeners can be set on any view, so any size/shape widget can be made clickable. This is done with the setOnClickListener method of a View. There are multiple ways to do this, try modifying your onCreate like this:
code :
@Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
    setContentView(R.layout.activity_test_container);

    testButton = (Button)findViewById(R.id.testContainerButton1);
    containerLayout = (LinearLayout)findViewById(R.id.testLayout);

    testButton.setOnClickListener(this);
}
@Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
    setContentView(R.layout.activity_test_container);

    testButton = (Button)findViewById(R.id.testContainerButton1);
    containerLayout = (LinearLayout)findViewById(R.id.testLayout);

    testButton.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
        public void onClick(View v) {
            createNewLayout();
        }
    });
}

fixed the issue. Will look into that further I want to place a textview on top right corner of imageview and also to overlap some part of textview on to imageview. How can i do that. Right now I am doing this: , If you need overlapping you should use the FrameLayout.
code :
<FrameLayout
            android:layout_height="wrap_content"
            android:layout_width="wrap_content"
            android:layout_marginLeft="12dip"
            >

            <ImageView
                android:layout_width="wrap_content"
                android:layout_height="wrap_content"
                android:id="@+id/imgMessage"
                android:src="@drawable/listing_message"
                />

            <TextView
                android:id="@+id/tvMessageCounter"
                android:layout_width="20dip"
                android:layout_height="20dip"
                android:padding="2dip"
                android:marginLeft="10dp"
                android:text="2"
                android:textColor="@drawable/whiteColor"
                android:background="@layout/bg_blue"
                android:textSize="10sp"
                android:gravity="center"
                android:layout_gravity="center_vertical|right"
                />

        </FrameLayout>

this will help My ViewPager is contained within a RelativeLayout in my listview_item.xml: , you are casting linear layout into the relative layout.
you uses
code :
@Override
public boolean isViewFromObject(View view, Object o) {
return (view == (RelativeLayout) o);
}

@Override
public void destroyItem(ViewGroup container, int position, Object   object) {
container.removeView((RelativeLayout) object);
}
@Override
public boolean isViewFromObject(View view, Object o) {
return (view == (LinearLayout) o);
}

@Override
public void destroyItem(ViewGroup container, int position, Object   object) {
container.removeView((LinearLayout) object);
}
