this will help SNS is about publishing notifications (pubsub).
Once you have a topic, you can create subscriptions. A subscription is roughly made by a protocol and an identifier (email, url).

How does push notification technology work on Android?

How does push notification technology work on Android?

Does that help From what I've heard during an Android developers conference in Israel:
There is simply a TCP socket waiting in accept mode on a cloud Google server. The TCP connection had been initiated by the Google Play application. That's why Google Play must be installed on the device for making Google Cloud Messaging (GCM) (formerly Android Cloud to Device Messaging Service - C2DM) work.

hope this fix your issue We have critical windows services that must always be running at work and the way we handled this was to write a monitioring program that listens to communication from the critical services and sends out an email if any of them stop "calling in". Here are a few details (although a bit simplified):
1) We use MSMQ messages to have the computers running the services talk to the monitor. Each service writes to a specific queue and the monitor is set to read from those queues. Note that MSMQ has pros and cons--if you choose to use this method, be sure to read up on it a bit.

wish helps you Seconding @PhilSandler's comment - you can host NServiceBus in your ASP.NET processes and have them talk to each other without any windows services.

it helps some times If you're using node then you can 'push' notifications to a connected user via websockets. The linked document is an example of one well known websocket engine that has good performance and good documentation. That way your application can send notifications to any user, or sets of users, or everyone based on simple queries that you setup.
Data storage is a different question. Generally mysql does have poor perfomance in cases of high scalability, and mongo does generally have a quicker read query response, but it depends on what data structure you wish to use. If your data is in a simple key-value structure with no real need for relational data, then perhaps using a memory store such as Redis would be the most suitable.

may help you . I'd say that depends on your server side. If your server is capable of maintaining a TCP connection and is somehow stateful, WebSocket is the standard way to go as it is IETF RFC. However keep two things in mind:
Not all clients support WebSocket, so it could come in handy to have a fall back, like long-polling ajax etc. There are numerous libraries built for that exact scenario, like socket.io, SignalR etc. There is no internet protocol that guarantees that your push-notification reaches the client, since the connection can always be closed by them or due to bad connectivity. My advice would be: Have clients send you a confirmation for each push-notification. If you do not get the confirmation then treat the message as not received and try again when the client connects the next time. (You'll need some sort of database for that)
